FreshPoints – Everything You Need To Know

Points to Rewards – FreshPoints Guide.

Fresh Points Guide

[Edit: June 6, 2013 – This Rewards Program is over]

Have you heard about FreshPoints? If not, here is a brief introduction about who they are and what they do.

FreshPoints is a mobile rewards program that allows you to receive points when you go grocery shopping. These points can then be turned into rewards, simply by shopping at any grocery store and scanning the barcode of your grocery items.

How does FreshPoints work?

  • Once inside a grocery store, open the app and “check-in” to that store. You will receive 25 points just for doing this one action.
  • FreshPoints Check In

  • Once home, scan the barcode on products you’ve purchased in order to receive points for them. Some items will receive more points than others.
  • FreshPoints Scan Barcode

  • Afterwards, you can rate the products that you’ve scanned and share these ratings on your social media accounts to receive even more points.
  • FreshPoints Share on Social Media

  • Once you’ve acquired enough points, you are able to redeem them for various gift cards or offers.

Who can be a member?

Anyone living within Canada can be a member of FreshPoints. You will also need an iPhone, iPad or iPhone with camera, as this app is not available on any other devices at the moment.

You can only have 1 account per person. This means that more than one person in your household can have an account, if you have multiple devices.

When are new offers available?

New FreshPoints offers are released every Friday afternoon. You will receive an email and you can also find these offers on, of course!

What can be scanned?

Any grocery item that is purchased in a grocery store can be scanned. This includes food and beverage products, pet food, household cleaning items (cleaners, air fresheners) and personal care items (shampoo, toilet paper).

Is there a check-in limit?

You are able to check-in 15 times per week and will receive 25 points per check-in.

Is there a scanning limit?

You are only able to scan 50 items within a 24 hour period. You will receive 5 points per scan.

What if I get asked to take a photo of an item I’ve scanned?

If a new item is scanned and there is no image for that item, FreshPoints will ask you to submit an image. There is a weekly limit of 50 new product image uploads a week and you will receive 5 points for every photo you submit.

What is a lottery scan?

This allows you to earn more than the base amount on the next item you scan. Think of it as bonus points!

How many points can I receive?

  • Check-in: 25 points
  • Submitting an image: 5 points
  • Sharing on Facebook: 3 points
  • Sharing on Twitter: 3 points
  • Rate an item: 5 points

How long before I receive my reward?

Most of the rewards are digital and are sent via email. They are usually received within 2 business days. Physical rewards (Esso, Jack Astors, Subway gift cards) are sent via postal mail and can take up to 2 weeks to be received.

If you’re going to be grocery shopping (and who doesn’t have to grocery shop?), you might as well earn something for doing it and FreshPoints is a fantastic way to earn rewards for doing something you have to do anyway.

  1. Viginia says:

How do they know you’ve purchased an item and your not just scanning everything in the store?

  2. Andrea says:

Viginia- They dont. I would highly recommend to avoid wasting your time with this app. I used it when they advertised $25 gift cards for 3000points. I worked myself halfway there, spent lots of money and then they changed the point redemption to 25000points. they upped my points from 1600 to 5000 points. not nearly enough to reflect “halfway there”. The foods did not go up in point value, so now it’ll take over 8times the work to get a gc. I contacted them to let them know I am not ok with the false advertises they made towards me to purchase the products I have so far – no response. Because they cant prove what you’ve bought people will continue to misuse and they can change the value of the redemptions at anytime, even if your just a few points away. Trust me it was a waste of time before, and now it is worse. MrsJanuary most likely knows about this recent rip off of points, but didnt mention it.

    • Cassie Howard says:

I know many people that have used this app, myself included, and I have not heard of any issues. If I had, of course I wouldn’t promote it.

      • Lori at Frugal Edmonton Mama says:

I received two gift cards, but that was before they changed to the new points values – I don’t think I will be using it now since it’s going to take forever to get the value for the new cards!

  3. Andrea says:

Did I mention that i have bought products they have advertised a certain amount of points and the scanner never recognized the product and I never got the points. When I have contacted them about this…no response…Please dont waste your time, I and others are currently working to have this app removed by apple for false advertising

  4. Christine Weadick says:

I emailed the site with a questiona nd haven’t heard back as of yet. Maybe you know…. Am I confined to the list that comes out every week or can I scan what ever I happen to be buying???? The site doesn’t explain that one clearly at all or maybe I’m just having a slow moment….. If I’m confined to the list I won’t bother with this as there are very few items on the list I actually buy…… Your thoughts??????

  5. Courtney says:

This seems slightly too good to be true. I say that just because you can scan any 50 items in a store, daily and they wouldn’t know better. You would then be rewarded out of their pocket. The thing I love most about the Checkout 51 app is that they actually want proof people are buying the items.

  6. josee parr says:

it asking me for a promo code when i sign up????

  7. Gail says:

I received a message to say that this app is not available in the Canadian store…

  8. Sara says:

    this is over now…
